JUSTIN STRICKLAND
Justin Strickland, 30, Owner/Guide STRICKLY OUTDOORS, Born and raised in South West florida. Official Florida cracker! He has been an avid hunter since he shot his first deer at the age of 5. Although all areas of hunting keep him intrigued, he has had a passion is for the illusive osceola turkeys since the day they first met. At the age of sixteen after spending many years in the woods he started to teach himself how to call birds in. His obsession with the pursuit lead him to guiding others for the ultimate kill. The Osceola is known as one of the hardest turkeys to obtain in the grand slam
Justin has been guiding hogs on private land since he was about ten when his father had clients come into town. He was the best guide they ever had. He started guiding for turkeys when he was 20, and has spent literally every day in the woods during florida spring season. He even told his wife the wedding needed to be planned around his “season”.
Justin Graduated High School in 2003. He went on to play baseball in college and soon was out for season due to a rotator cuff injury. He went on to fire fighting school and has been saving lives for ten years now. Working as a Lieutenant for Immokalee Fire Dept. During his off days he is no where to be found but the woods or water. He married his middle school sweetheart after being reunited after 12 years. Justin has had the chance to film shows with multiple big names in the industry, working as part of Mossy Oak Prostaff. Justin sits as an ambassador/East Coast Us Rep with Wishes For Warriors something he takes a lot of pride in giving back to the Hero's that fought for our country. Every year Justin has veterans come down for spring turkey season and hunt sharing his passion for the outdoors and the obsession he has for the THUNDER CHICKEN!!!
DERK MATZ
Born and raised in the hills of South East Ohio, Derk has an insasiable passion for the outdoors. He was fortunate to have a father that introduced him to the outdoor tradition at a very early age, and spent his years growing up hunting, fishing and trapping. Early on the focus was primarily small game then graduated to the likes of quail and grouse before settling in some thirty years ago on what has become his lifelong passion... turkey and deer.
An avid bowhunter and outdoorsman, Derk understands the importance of passing on the " outdoor tradition" and has three sons of his own that accompany him to the woods each spring and fall to share in the ultimate outdoor experience.
After spending 25 years in Manufacturing Management, he's come back to his roots and is now self employed with a growing Vacation Cabin Rental business, Hickory Hideaway LLC, located on the Eastern edge of Hocking Hills Ohio
